Consisting of two interlinked monologues, THE AGE OF CONSENT delves into the psyche of two characters. Timmy is a teenage killer on the brink of being released from his youth offender’s institution, having killed an infant boy years before. Stephanie is an abusive single mother who is keen to get her young daughter into showbiz, and ends up delivering her straight into the hands of a paedophile. Peter Morris’s monologue about a teenage killer has eerie echoes with the killers of James Bulger, as the playwright imagines what Thompson or Venables would be like now. The play looks at how we define childhood and what it is to be a child in today’s society.
