THREEDUMB THEATRE

COMMITTED TO GREAT STORYTELLING

bio.

Formed in 2015 by LIPA graduates, we are a young theatre company committed to delivering great storytelling.

We have produced various fringe theatre productions and host an annual play festival in the heart of London’s West End called ‘Six Plays One Day’. From this festival, some of our plays have been developed for longer runs elsewhere, like our 2020 production of ‘Am I Happy Yet’ at the Lion & Unicorn Theatre, which received an OffComm Award from OffWestEnd.

Our critically acclaimed one-man show ‘Dog/Actor’ was due to tour the UK in the summer of 2020, after a few successful runs in Watford, London and Dubai in 2019. The tour was rescheduled for the summer of 2022 and was programmed as part of the Bath Fringe, Camden Fringe and Edinburgh Fringe.

When the 2020 pandemic hit, we decided to go digital and created multiple live-streamed digital theatre shows, firstly from home and then from empty theatres. Our online work won multiple awards and in 2022 we won the Offie Award for Best Live-streamed Production for 'The Black Cat',

In October 2021, we created a brand new solo show called 'One Man Poe' - a quadruple-bill of gothic tales from Edgar Allan Poe, performed live on stage by one actor. The show was programmed at the Watford Fringe, London Horror Festival and for a special one-off Halloween performance at the Southwark Playhouse. 'One Man Poe' received an OffComm Award from OffWestEnd.

Please check out our CURRENT PROJECTS to see what we're up to.

Fringe

We have produced various fringe theatre productions and now host an annual play festival in the heart of London's West End called Six Plays One Day.

Touring

We have a wide network of theatre which we have toured shows to in the past and have plans to visit in the future.

We have toured shows around the UK and oversees in Dubai, the USA and Malaysia.

Digital

During the Covid-19 lockdown, we experimented with creating a brand new style of digital theatre. Our online shows have won multiple awards and we plan to develop this unique way of storytelling further.

OUR TEAM.

Stephen Smith

Artistic Director

Stephen is an actor from Watford and created Threedumb Theatre with Matthew and Duncan at LIPA in 2015. Since leaving drama school, he has undertaken the role of Artistic Director of the company after spearheading several projects. He enjoys all aspects of the theatre-making process, but especially loves creating shows that show-off his talented friends.

When not creating theatre, he can usually be found under a rock somewhere, scheming of ways how to.

Matthew Bromwich

Associate Director

Matthew trained at LIPA with Stephen and Duncan and likes to remind them both that he was the one who convinced them to let him direct a full production of NOT ABOUT HEROES after seeing them portray the characters beautifully during a scene study module at LIPA. And the rest, as they say, is history!

Matthew is now pursuing a career in teaching but prides himself on being the initial mastermind behind SIX PLAYS ONE DAY and is keenly involved with its ongoing development.

Duncan Riches

Associate Producer

Duncan is an actor and theatre maker originally from Lincolnshire, now living in Liverpool after graduating from LIPA with Matthew and Stephen. He has worked on many varied projects, from mid-scale theatre to local library shows and children’s theatre. He has also tried his hand at writing, as well as directing and producing with Threedumb Theatre.

He’s a keen yogi, plays the piano and loves trains and Star Wars. Oh, and Marmite.
