Created by Unearthed Theatre

Two Brothers. A collection of tales. One final journey.

MY FERN FLOWER follows the journey of Jonah and Jim, two brother’s crossing through the thresholds of story and reality to help one another.

It’s a show about letting go, about hope, about bring stories from around the world together.

It’s a story that brings out the imagination and magic in the act of storytelling.

This show was presented as part of SIX PLAYS ONE DAY at the Tristan Bates Theatre on 8th February 2020.

Author's note.

MY FERN FLOWER is an idea and a story which is very easy and very hard to describe. Danny Deardorff says ‘a myth is a true story, just without the use of facts’ and that’s how I’d describe this show. It’s an amalgamation of myths that uncover a truth, a revelation, a quest.

This is a Work-In-Progress showing of this stage of our story. After having previewed the show to much success at Brighton Fringe we wanted to delve deeper into its flaws, strengths and mysteries and have re-written much of the show. We hope you can help us uncover the next stage of this story through some feedback sheets and even a chat at the end of the show…. We are really friendly I promise.

It’s very rare that you get to create work with people you love. So I’d like to thank them - they know who they are - for the free rehearsal rooms, the endless questions, lack of organisation and the pints… always for the pints.

Storytelling is how we learn, it’s one of the most powerful and oldest conventions of our time. I hope that we can all make the world a little bit better off by telling our stories when we can. Thank you.

"Unearthed Theatre are an exciting act, with a promising future”

- ED FRINGE REVIEW

★★★★

"...a deeply moving story which never descends into pity, and even finds cause for happiness and hope."

- Richard Stamp, FRINGE REVIEW

"Jonah York could easily be seen as a hippy from Brighton who wants to make a play about the stories that are embedded in us. But somehow, he goes about making theatre in a completely non-self-involved, genuinely passionate and experimental way."

- A YOUNGER THEATRE

★★★★

"...a deeply moving story which never descends into pity, and even finds cause for happiness and hope."
