Blasphemy

by Caroline Buckley

Created by Unearthed Theatre

Trapped in a cage, within a cage, within a cage, surrounded by the dead, three survivors are forced to ponder their circumstances...

A claustrophobic and comedic tragedy. Birdy, Ratty and Alex flutter between hopeful and hopeless and they come to terms with the bars that surround them. An absurd exploration of their individual beliefs systems which help them rationalise being abducted and tortured by the unknown.

BLASPHEMY was presented as part of SIX PLAYS ONE DAY at the Tristan Bates Theatre on Saturday 9th February 2019.

DIRECTOR'S NOTE:

It seems fitting that BLASPHEMY was born in the off-centre cell that is the Old Red Lion Theatre Pub under the amazing work that the Plays Rough program produce. Putting theatre on for nights that make you 'get up and just do it' are what make London's Fringe theatre scene thrive and Plays Rough, and now Threedumb Theatre, are making 'plays-in-progress' become 'plays that will have a future'. I guess what I'm trying to say is BLASPHEMY is a play to be explored by everyone and a play we would love to continue. Discovering tortured pasts, dystopian futures and rehearsing in three dog cages in a 4 foot by 4 foot room could not have been more enjoyable.
